This is a Ruger Mini-14 I bought from a friend who was going through a messy divorce. It has a Butler Creek folding stock, aftermarket 30-round.

I'm at the cusp of picking up a Mini 14 (5816) but a friend of mine keeps telling me I should look at the Mini 30 before committing. I don't want to buy both, so I'm wondering what the good people of Gunnit think about the two rifles and if there is a reason to look at the Mini 30 other than the larger caliber size?
EDIT: I live in CT and I've heard that Ruger doesn't make a 10 round mag for the 30, unless that's recently changed, so I may actually not have a choice.
EDIT 2: I also noticed that the Mini 14 chambers 5.56 and .223, while the 30 only chambers 7.62x39. I like the idea of options on the 14, but not sure if that's enough to be a decision maker....
